Did you know that it’s National Apprenticeship Week or #NAW2018 right now? If you’d love a career in photography or you’re a photographer who would like to give some new talent a leg up, apprenticeships can be a brilliant pathway. Today on the blog we’re talking about why you should consider a photography apprenticeship. Why choose a photography apprenticeship? With an apprenticeship, one of the biggest advantages is that you get to earn as you learn. You’re legally entitled to paid holidays, you get paid for time spent training and you have the benefit of working on real projects with more experienced photographers and other professionals. This can be a great learning environment. You’re also likely to get access to photography equipment and editing software that you may have only ever dreamed of using. Apprenticeships will often lead into full time employment too and as mentioned above, you could encounter some great networking opportunities along the way. All of this could help you to start establishing a long and successful photography career. Why offer a photography apprenticeship? There’s a certain amount of satisfaction to be derived from helping the next generation of photography talent to realise their goals. Perhaps you benefitted from an apprenticeship or having a mentor in your youth and you would like to pass it forward? Employers who take on apprentices get support with the process along with funding to cover the cost of training and assessment. Their companies benefit from input of new ideas and high levels of staff retention too. In fact, 87% of companies using apprenticeships report being satisfied with how it’s worked for their business. If you’d like to explore the option of introducing an apprenticeship role in your business, you can call the National Apprenticeship Service on 0800 015 0600. How much do photography apprentices earn? The amount photography apprentices earn varies between jobs. Some employers may also offer perks such as lunch and travel while out on location. As a minimum you will receive the apprentice national minimum wage of £3.50 per hour for those aged under 19 or those who are 19 and over in their first year of an apprenticeship. If you’re aged over 19 and have completed your first year you will receive at least national minimum wage relative to your age. Apprenticeships can last between one and five years. According to job site Adzuna, apprentice salaries across sectors average £14,759. How to find an apprenticeshipYou may find apprenticeships advertised on local jobsites or through your JobCentre Plus. You can also search for apprenticeships online here. Along with photography apprentice roles, you may also want to consider other jobs that incorporate photography. This could include marketing assistant or ecommerce or studio assistant jobs that include product photography . This way, not only will you get to do a job which involves photography but you’re likely to open up other career possibilities in the process. Looking to make your mark in the world of photography? The post Have You Considered a Photography Apprenticeship? appeared first on Parrot Print Tips For The Perfect Canvas Prints. via Parrot Print Tips For The Perfect Canvas Prints http://ift.tt/2trty1A How glorious does the snow look right now? It’s caused a few days of disrupted work and traffic and it’s certainly not without its risks. But this somewhat unexpected snowy period has given kids across the UK a chance to engage in some old-fashioned cold weather fun and of course, for us photographers there’s the chance to capture the cold snap with our own take. As ever, we’re always thinking about what kind of images might look striking on your walls and it just so happens that snow scenes look amazing on a white canvas. Here’s how you turn the efforts of the Beast from the East into your best snow images yet. Snow angel familyWho can resist lying down in the snow to make a snow angel? Well, you’ll need someone to do the honours of taking the photograph unless you can rely on a tripod or timer to get the shot. A photograph of the whole family creating a snow angel could be a great personalised Christmas card for next year or a canvas print to welcome visitors in the hallway. To help ensure you fit everyone in and don’t blemish the snow around you, try marking out where each person will lie with a snowball. Footprints in the snowGoing for a walk in the snow might be a short-lived adventure in temperatures as cold as these but it should provide plenty of photo opportunities. Think about following behind the rest of the family to capture a perfect group shot in the distance. Using HDR will help you to show up the different textures in your snow scene. Snowball, snowman and sledging actionHands up who’s built a snowman this week? Photograph or it didn’t happen! Snowman building, snowball fights and sledging make superb photograph fodder. If you can avoid being hit by flying snow! The best shots will get right to the heart of the action to record the pure moments of joy and excitement on everyone’s faces as they play. Shapes in the snowClean, powdery snow is in many ways like an untouched beach, so why not try some of your favourite creative beach photography ideas out in the snow? Use your snow boots to stamp out shapes such as love hearts and you’ll not have something lovely to photograph that will look stunning as a sentimental keepsake on canvas. You could even use the snow as a canvas to stage a romantic proposal. Or why not try a jump shot? Be careful it doesn’t turn into a snow angel photograph though. Snow falling shotClose up snow photographs look so magical, sometimes you have to make the snow itself the star of the show. Enlist the help of someone else to help and have them look up so you can photograph the snow falling on their face or try getting them to blow a pile of snow from their hands towards the camera.
