Whether you’re planning a home move or just know you won’t want to spend all of the Christmas holidays with your feet up, this post is for those of you who have some decorating on the horizon. Every year, the ‘in’ colours for interiors shift a little. And while in 2019 you’ll see lots of familiar shades on the shelves, there are some new hues that you may want to watch out for. After a good number of years with relaxed neutrals and gorgeous greys and millennial pink taking centre stage – these are the colours tipped to make a splash in 2019. Will any of these shades end up on your walls? NudesIf you’re a magnolia devotee, you may want to step things up a notch and select one of the many nude shades that seek to be a bit better than beige. Nude colours are very on trend for wall covering in the seasons to come. Expect to see lots of sandy, earthy shades and variations on familiar everyday colours such as oatmeal. Just like beige they’re versatile and easy to use as a base for your room, they just have a little more depth and some even a suggestion of texture. Spiced HoneyIn anticipation for the coming seasons, the big paint retailers like to choose their own winning shade that they think will best represent the year to come. For Dulux, this colour is Spiced Honey. A calming and earthy hue that can be used to warm up cooler shades or add cooler contrast to richer colours. This is a very liveable colour that would look great in a shared family space. TiruGraham & Brown’s colour of the year 2019 is Tiru – a rich, opulent teal that we can’t help but agree will be popular. Teal shades have been very popular in recent years with accent homeware accessories in the shade chosen in many homes. You only need to check what colours a print is offered in on etsy to know that teal is no new colour trend. However, this is a really bold example, which works well alongside eastern influences. Botanical GreensGlorious greens aren’t going anywhere this year. We’ve seen leafy printed wallpapers, fabrics and furnishings show that all things green are as determined to stay put as an out of control garden climber. The experts tip there will be more of the same this year, albeit with new prints, patterns and lots of botanically inspired paint colours to tie in. Living CoralThis bright, orangey peach shade is the new pink in town and is a real supercharged choice in comparison with millennial or blush pinks that have been popular in recent years. Vibrant, warming and lots of fun, Pantone has chosen a surprisingly versatile shade for its colour of the year. It’s not a shade that you’re likely to paint a whole room with but it would work really well as a shade fo plush velvet chairs, curtains or personalised canvas prints and art work. Is it a colour you’d like to decorate with? There will of course be lots of contenders for new ‘in’ colour as interiors trends emerge throughout the year. But for now, which – if any – of these tipped shades for 2019 would you love or loathe to see in your home?

Did you or someone you know welcome a new arrival into the family this year? If you’re the proud parent or relative of a new baby enjoying their very first festive season, you’re likely looking forward to seeing all of the excitement through their eyes. Naturally, you’ll want a camera at hand to capture some magic moments, but have you thought about holding your own Christmas photo shoot too? Today on the Parrot Print blog we are sharing a few ideas on props, outfits and tactics to net you some fantastically Christmassy baby’s first Christmas photos. Cute 1st Christmas OutfitsBabies are pretty cute generally, but the right outfit can really help to set the festive mood, even if you’re doing your Christmas shoot early! You could keep it simple by popping a little Santa or Elf hat on your little one along with a Christmas patterned baby grow. However, as the saying goes – less can really be more – so when it comes to choosing an baby’s Christmas outfit, consider items that give a nod to the season without being too OTT. You could try:
Setting Up Your Festive ShootIt’s cold outside, so for yours and baby’s comfort and the convenience of being able to photograph at your own pace, shooting at your home is an easy option. While you may be tempted to set up your shoot around the sparkling lights and reflective baubles of the Christmas tree – you may encounter difficulties doing so. Overall, a large tree can be hard to frame in shot with a teeny, tiny baby and can prove very distracting too. If the child is sitting and moving around, you may want to consider using a small Christmas tree that will sit in shot with them. This way, you can snap some of those wonderful bauble reflection images. Just be sure that there are no easy to break baubles on the tree! For younger babies, lying them down on a festive patterned rug or something extra snuggly like a fake fur blanket will ensure they’re nice and comfortable. Plus, it will give a nice festive touch too. You could give them some festive items such as a felt decoration or tinsel and capture their delight as they explore them. Alternatively, try to get baby to smile with a favourite toy out of shot and lots of encouraging noises. And of course, make sure you have as much natural light as possible to get some lovely crisp Christmassy shots! Are you planning your own family Christmas photography shoot this year? Whether you plan to put your images on canvas or want to create your own family Christmas card, we’ve got lots of festive photography ideas here on the blog. There are also some personalised gift suggestions for all the family based on their interests including our gifts for travel lovers. Happy snapping!

From glorious glass, brass and marble through to rich and opulent velvet… today we’re talking about how to mix and match the key components of the trend in your home. What do we mean by Art Deco?Art Deco was a movement in art, architecture, fashion and interiors that was at its peak in the 1920s. However, its beginnings started in pre-WW1 France and the term art deco is actually short for art decoratifs. The art and design movement favoured luxury fabrics and materials such as marble, glass, brass and gold. This went alongside a fondness for bold geometric shapes and lines and strong colours and pattern. Also known as art moderne, art deco interiors sought to radiate elegance, wealth and sophistication. So, if you’re planning a luxe look for a particular room or your whole apartment, there’s a tip or two you may want to borrow from the Art Deco period. Why is Art Deco making a come back? After years of minimal looks in interiors magazines and on the high street, some consumers have seemingly had enough of light, airy and white Scandi-inspired interiors. Now, it seems consumers and homeowners are ready to take a step or two in the opposite direction. The clean, blank canvas is out and in its place we’re seeing more demand for luxury style touches. The look is far from minimalistic, but can be paired back to fit with the architecture of your home or your own personal taste. You can add as little or as much art deco styling to your home as you like. After all, there’s no requirement to go all out to create a gold accessories filled pattern-laden velvet emporium! One of the other factors playing a part in the resurgence of Art Deco is a renewed interest in past times, activities and even drinks of the trend’s heyday. At the moment, premium distilled spirits are very much the in thing in the alcoholic beverage world. With this in mind, furniture items such as 1920s style cocktail trolleys and tables fit nicely with Britain’s enthusiasm for drinks like botanical gins How will you work Art Deco in your home?If you’re starting to think Art Deco could be a little of what you fancy in your home, there are some great finds in the shops to help you channel the look on a large of small scale. Keep it subtle with brass or gold table lamps, rounded mirrors and geometric lampshades. Love architecture? Give the artistic movement a subtle nod with photography of Art Deco buildings printed on canvas. Want to go a little larger? Grand chairs, plush velvet sofas, printed wallpaper and metal framed windows are great ways to indulge art deco leanings in combination throughout the home. What do you think of the art deco trend? Are you a fan or would you happily leave its interior looks in the past? The post An Introduction To The Art Deco Interiors Trend appeared first on Parrot Print Tips For The Perfect Canvas Prints. via Parrot Print Tips For The Perfect Canvas Prints https://ift.tt/2RuXJMS Are they the hard to buy for type who has everything? Do you have a limited budget and need something thoughtful but affordable? A personalised Christmas gift can tick all the boxes. We’re a little biased, but we think a customised canvas print can make a great gift for almost anyone on your list. This is particularly the case if you factor in their loves, interests and home interiors when planning your gift. Let’s take a look at some gifting trends and how to work them into a personalised canvas print they’ll treasure. TwinningTwinning gifts have been huge news this year and it it’s a trend that’s set to carry on to Christmas gifting. If you’ve missed it, twinning is centred on mummy and me or daddy and me gifts that parents and little ones can enjoy together. It could also involve sibling twinning too. Think matching outfits, family pyjama sets or matching mum and toddler bags. So how do you transfer the trend to canvas? If you happen to have snapped a lovely photo of them twinning, we think it would look great as one of our 6×6 desk canvas prints. Or why not stage your own twinning dress up and surprise them with the photos? Got a photo of mum or dad at the same age their son or daughter is now? Pop them side-by-side on a canvas for the ultimate twinning gift. Your Special MomentsWe love the heart map prints you can buy with the locations of where you first met, where you got engaged and where you held your wedding day. But wouldn’t they look a lot more personal if you used photographs instead? Select photographs of the locations special to you for a beautiful reminder of your most magical moments. And of course, your magic moments don’t need to be focused around a wedding. This could work for a pregnancy or breastfeeding journey or baby milestones too. Photographs are brilliant at telling stories, how will you tell theirs? AdventurersThe adventure theme has been a consistent trend in kids’ interiors in recent years. You can see it in woodland and camping inspired bedrooms on everything from duvet covers to babyccino mugs and lots of products in between. If you’re little ones love camping out with all the family, hiking, fishing or climbing you could create a series of canvas prints to celebrate your family’s biggest adventures. Pop them in the hallway to remind them of what the world has in store as they head out of the door or inspire playtime by putting them up in the playroom. Got a set of super hero loving siblings at home? You could use the holidays to stage your very own super hero photo shoot. Crafty types can take their very own superhero photos with the help of detailed dioramas and figurines. You’ll find lots of fun examples online to fuel your imagination. Have you started Christmas shopping yet? Will you be opting for a personalised gift for him or her this year? If you’ve not even thought about gifts just yet, don’t worry! Our final order date for Christmas deliveries will be December 18th, so you have plenty of time just yet! The post Personal Christmas Gift Planning for 2018 appeared first on Parrot Print Tips For The Perfect Canvas Prints. via Parrot Print Tips For The Perfect Canvas Prints https://ift.tt/2ztCcx3 With filters at our fingertips and photoshop always on hand, post-editing has become the norm. But, would you benefit from taking a few steps back and editing your work less? In this post we take a look at the different types of editing and why stepping away from the editing equipment could not only benefit your photography career, but could result in better images. The Two Types Of EditingIn the world of photography ‘editing’ has two different meanings. The first meaning looks at the post-production of an image and focuses on your camera’s settings. These include adjusting the brightness and white balance, cropping, and changing the contrast and exposure etc. Known as ‘simple editing’, the majority of photographers edit their images using these before showing them off to friends, family, or clients. The other meaning refers to the body of your work with the process of culling. Culling is an editing method used in every style of photography by all kinds of photographers. Basically, it means selecting the very best images from a collection and editing them before sending them to a client, friend or family. 4 Reasons Why You Should Edit Less…To Be More RelatableWith the rise of the blogosphere, a trend in photography is to capture ordinary images as our audience now wants content to be more relatable. A few years ago aspiration images were trending, especially on Instagram. Since trends come and go, now is the time to publish images that our audience can relate to. Through editing images we can make our food look like it was served by a Michelin Star chef, our holidays more envious and ourselves look much better. Unfortunately, audiences can see straight through this. In fact travel blogger, Amelia Liana, received a wealth of criticism from bloggers, national press and the public for over editing her travel images. This resulted in a loss of followers and a huge amount of negative comments left on her Instagram feed. So, next time you capture a photo, whether it’s perfect or not, remember to either leave it as it is, or edit it slightly. To Improve Your Camera KnowledgeWhen capturing an image your camera either snaps it in a RAW/manual file format, or a JPEG. If you have it set to JPEG, your camera will take a photo and apply some contrast, add some saturation topped with a little sharpening, as well as some other features too. This is exactly what shooting in AUTO does. You have to remember that your camera doesn’t understand what it’s taking a photo of, or what editing the image requires. It simply applies a pre-set level of editing. However, if you switch the camera to manual you can control how the images comes out and apply your own edits and create the look you want your photo to have. Don’t worry about knowing all of the features. The ones you need to concentrate on are ISO, shutter speed, aperture and basic photo resolution. Knowing these will allow you to capture the photo you want without over editing it. To Understand That Props Are OTTEditing doesn’t always mean using software, sometimes you can edit the situation you’re capturing. The majority of photographers, or bloggers use props to enhance the scene they are snapping, however, too many props can look unrealistic. This goes back to the expectation vs reality we mentioned earlier. Basically, natural props are okay. But, over editing the image with props that would not naturally be in the image is unrealistic and therefore unrelatable. To Capture Different ImagesIf you take a look at images by high profile photographers and popular bloggers, you’ll see that their images have the same filter, or edit on them. This is so their images boast the same theme and look. But, repetition is boring. Repetition means that your clients, or audience already know what to expect. Over time they could become bored, which could result in them unfollowing you. So, push the boundaries of your photography further by trying new styles of photography, or simply leave your images as they are rather than applying the same edit to them. Remember to mix things up a little and always leave your audience wanting more. How do you feel about editing your images? Do you use the same filter? Will you try and edit your photos less? Plus, you don’t have to travel far to find frost-filled landscapes, or freezing subjects. On a cold morning there’s bound to be frost on your car mirror, or the windows in your home. But, which will you embrace, which will you try and swerve, and what will you use and turn into a photo opportunity? In today’s post we explore the latest xmas decor trends and the photography backdrops they create… The Humble Christmas TreeFor thousands of years the evergreen fir tree has been used by pagans and Christians to celebrate winter festivals. The tree itself is a symbol of everlasting life with God. Each item we use to decorate a tree in today’s society has a meaning behind it. Fairy lights represent the flickering flames of candles and the baubles are inspired by fruit that Romans would hang on trees all those years ago. Fast-forward to 2018 and we’re now taking Christmas decor very seriously. In the age of social media where everyone is striving for likes, Christmas decorations need to look Pinterest pretty, or completely Insta-worthy. People now go into a lot of effort when it comes to choosing their decorations, starting with a theme. Favourites include a traditional looking tree with a matching colour scheme of lights, baubles and tinsel. Or, something a little alternative and eye-catching like a bright pink artificial tree, or fibre optic tree. The Perfect Tree BackdropSince people are getting more creative with their designs, they want to reflect their efforts by capturing them on camera. No matter your style, or theme, there’s a way you can snap up your display and showcase your decorations. There’s the iconic and classic image of the tree standing proud all lid up with the roaring fire in the background. For those who want a more instagrammable image, place yourself, or ask a friend to sit in front of the tree. Perhaps curled up with a cup of hot chocolate in a cosy knit, or pyjamas that complement the theme of the tree. Don’t be afraid to venture outside too. Take it back to the beginning by capturing this tree in its natural environment and then document the process of getting it home and decorating it. Christmas CardsThe custom of sending Christmas cards was started in the UK in 1843 by Sir Henry Cole. Sir Henry had the idea of sending Christmas cards with his John Horsley, who was an artist. Together they designed the first ever card and then sold them for one shilling each. Personalised PaperEven in the digital age Christmas cards are still very popular and will be displayed in many homes this winter. There are various ways in which people showcase their Christmas cards. Some purchase card holders and display them around the living room, others stick them to the wall to create a Christmas card canvas and then others hang them on twine up the banister. Some cards have pride of place on the mantelpiece above the fire. These cards are usually from close family members, or even ones that are personalised with a Christmas shoot on them. Want to create your own Christmas card shoot to display this winter? Then take inspiration from these shoot ideas. Elf Toys And Where They Came FromElf on the Shelf launched in 2005 with the with the story, The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition, written by Carol Aebersold and illustrated by Coë Steinwart. This children’s picture book explains how Santa Claus finds out which children are naughty and which children are nice from his little helpers – Elves that sit on shelves in our homes. Elves Around The HomeOver the last few years, Elf on the Shelf has become very popular with both adults and kids in the UK. Not only do they bring the festive spirit out in kids and adults, but they are a wealth of fun and create great photo opportunities. Just take a look on Instagram using the #ElfOnTheShelf hashtag and you’ll be overwhelmed with ideas and naughty elves. In addition to filling up your social media feed, take it one step further and blow up your naughty elf images onto a canvas print and use them as decorations around your home. Not only are they festive, but make great talking points with family and friends, and will be suitable for years to come. What’s your favourite part of Christmas decorating? Do you have heirloom decorations, or make your own? Do you make an event of putting up all the Christmas decorations with your family? The post Trees, Cards And Elves – The Latest Xmas Decor Trends appeared first on Parrot Print Tips For The Perfect Canvas Prints. via Parrot Print Tips For The Perfect Canvas Prints https://ift.tt/2pZOJDo It’s believed that our modern celebration of Halloween stems from the Autumn Celtic harvest festivals of the past. And when it comes to the fanfare and excitement that Halloween brings for many kids and adults in Britain today, we certainly have our neighbours across the pond in the US to thank for sharing some of their traditions such as trick or treating with us too. If you’re all about All Hallows Eve and are planning your own party or spooky gathering this year, have you thought about the Halloween décor? Whether you’re into dressing up yourself or not, styling your home for Halloween can really help to make your event spooktackular. Here’s how to approach it… Choose Event-Led DécorYou’ll find lots of cheap and cheerful Halloween decoration ideas available in the shops, but they may not necessarily fit with the event you have in mind. Plastic pumpkins and ghost bunting can be a good fit for a kids party but if you’re planning a more sophisticated soiree or want to take some atmospheric photos, you may want to put a little more time and effort in. If you’re hosting a party for adults in your home, think particularly about your welcome area. You want to set the scene for guests as they arrive. Keep it classic with a creatively carved pumpkin on the porch or in the window and think about putting up a ‘welcome’ sign too. If you’re a talented chalk artist, a black board would work well but calligraphy on board and paper or digital art could also work for the occasion. Whether you want to tell guests to ‘Abandon ye all hope…’ or direct them to the dining hall, get creative with writing styles and illustrations. Want to work the scary angle? Have a scarecrow sitting in a dark corner as guests enter. Prefer something a little more fun and colourful? Pumpkin, ghost, bat, or witch bunting can brighten things up. Planning a Halloween themed meal or dinner party? You may want to play it a little subtler, think pumpkin or star table confetti, a black table runner and some soft lighting and seasonal wall prints. The Importance of LightingLighting is so important for creating ambience at any gathering. Candle or pumpkin light can help to set a sense of uneasiness at the entrance and could well work at a dinner table too. However, if you’re hosting a full on costume party with lots of guests, you’ll need to strike a balance between setting a spooky atmosphere and being fire safe and able to see! If you’re home is fitted with dimmers, you’ll have a head start when it comes to finding a good glow. You could also call on fairy lights and paper lanterns to add colour and magic. They’ll look fabulous in the photos too. Things to Buy, Make and StashHalloween has become a huge calendar occasion here in the UK. If it’s something you and your family enjoy year after year, you may want to think about buying or making a few investment décor pieces to stash away. This is something many of us do every year for Christmas without thinking. So why should you settle for plastic pumpkins and table covers for Halloween? You can involve the kids with making bunting or dioramas that can then be reused. Look out for day of the dead, sugar skulls and skeleton home wares that can come out when the season starts. And of course, don’t forget a cosy blanket you can all snuggle up under while watching scary films. Do you have a Halloween decorations box you re-use every year? We’d love to hear what type of décor you have stashed in it! Do you DIY your Halloween decorations? Having graced numerous runway shows from leading fashion designers including Tom Ford, Victoria Beckham and Carolina Herrera. Dubbed by fashion journalists as the “great animal print revival”, we’re expecting to see this feline motif everywhere this A/W18. As interior trends frequently draw inspiration from the catwalks, we’re seeing this print venture from the high street to the hallways of our home. Whether it’s on the walls, floors or soft furnishings, it seems this print is making a comeback in more ways than one. In this post we take a look at the leopard print interiors trend and how you can incorporate it into your home… Four Decades And CountingLeopard print is back, but for some, it never really went away. A high street for years, this print is a cult classic in the fashion world and has remained a style staple in every woman’s wardrobe. It made its first debut in the Christian Dior’s 1947 S/S collection, which featured a leopard print dress. Fast-forward 44 years later to Azzedine Aliaia’s 1991 A/W collection, which showcased leopard print knitwear, and the print still looked as fierce as ever. It’s an evergreen trend that will continue to remain at the forefront of fashion. Meaning whichever way you reflect this trend into your home, with your own personal twist it can remain fresh and contemporary. Bringing Leopard Print Into Your HomeThe beauty of the leopard spot is that you can incorporate it into your home in a number of different ways. From soft, subtle touches to bold, dramatic pieces, there’s something to suit your style and taste. For those who don’t want to fully commit, there’s a huge selection of accessories, such as cushions and throws to help you channel the animal spirit of this trend. For those who want to make a statement, pay homage to your favourite animal using bigger items such as curtains, sofas, or even wallpaper. No matter how you introduce this print into your home, remember to play with textures and fabrics. Think plush pillows mixed with fluffy rugs, animal canvas prints on the walls and delicate chiffon boudoir curtains. Mix and match to add depth with the print and give your room a little character. Other Animal Prints That Are Big Right NowSnake, tiger, zebra – oh my! In addition to leopard print, we’re also shining a light on another animal print that’s popular in the interior world right now – dalmation. This spotty motif is a modern take on monochrome and it’s a style that can fit your home with ease. If you prefer stripes over spots, then you can always opt for zebra print. For the more daring, there’s tiger, or snake print. While the dalmation spot is subtler and easier to feature, the latter can make for a dramatic focal piece – like large prints and statement rugs. These Prints Are Perfect For…The fashion conscious, or style savvy. For those who like to keep their interiors bang on trend. If you prefer colours or textures, as opposed to patterns and prints, then take inspiration from other 2018 Autumn interiors trends. Are you a fan of leopard print? Are you brave enough to incorporate the print into your home’s interior styling? Want to know how to photograph your bakes at their very best? We’ve talked a little about baking photography tips on the blog before. And, as we’re big fans of both making and eating cake, we thought we’d share a few more tips on the blog with you today. That way, if you happen to produce a Showstopper worthy of Star Baker or indeed, a Hollywood handshake, you can also be a little more confident in capturing your efforts to put on canvas. A series of cake photos would look lovely on the wall above the breakfast table, don’t you think? When to snapWhen and why do you bake? Are you an early riser who likes to take advantage of a quiet kitchen or is it a final task to relax you before you head off to bed? Thinking about the levels of natural light available at the time many not be your first consideration when the baking mood take you but too much flash can ruin the best of bakes. And while overhead lights can be super handy for seeing what you’re doing, they’re not great for cake photography. Ideally, you want to use natural light, so if you happen to like baking around golden hour, that’s great news. If you’ve plenty of light you can use a faster shutter speed, otherwise, keep it slow and use a tripod to steady. Where to snapHow fancy is your kitchen? Are your benches and tiled splash backs really the best setting for the food styling you aspire to? Like our baking, we all have our own styling preferences. Start with the basics like photographing cakes, delicious tray bakes and frosting laden cupcakes from different angles and in varying arrangements. Cut slices, photograph from the top to show your decoration skills, stack or arrange in lines. Setting against a white background can help to bring in plenty of light. However, many cake photographers like to bring in colour with patterned backgrounds and to frame with pops of colourful ingredients or utensils. Creating a ‘mmmm’ momentThe say you eat with your eyes first and in the very best food photography, you should almost be able to taste and smell the thing you’re looking at. Many photographers use ingredients arranged on and around cakes and bakes to hint at flavours or build an overall colour scheme. Suggested movement is another popular technique. A jug of salted caramel sauce being poured slowly over chocolate brownies or a close up of a face enjoying that very first mouthful of a messy pavlova – think about how you’ll involve the viewer in the scene. If you’re photographing cupcakes or biscuits for your own baking business, make sure you let potential customers see inside those neat little cupcake boxes. Don’t just snap the packaging, pop open the box and put one of your finest examples next to a beautiful brew – create your own ‘mmmm’ moment.
